Young Artist Competition

Young Artist Competition

While details can vary year-to-year, the BBC Education Outreach provides the Young Artist Competition as an opportunity for youth musicians in Central Ohio to gain experience and vie for a performance opportunity with the Brass Band of Columbus.

Once we announce the competition dates and deadlines, it is important that the application and fee be postmarked as defined.  Applicants will be contacted and assigned a performance time.  The format is normally similar to that of a recital or OMEA Solo competition.

Literature requirements will be defined in writing each year, but typically, students are expected to perform a Class A Solo from the OMEA Required List so that the student can focus on that one piece. Student musicians are responsible to secure their own piano accompanist, as needed.

Dateline May 27, 2016

The Educational Outreach Committee for the Brass Band of Columbus is pleased to announce that the Annual Young Artist Competition (YAC) will be held on Tuesday, June 21, 2016. The Competition will be held at Capital University beginning at 1:00 pm.

Our competition adjudicators will be Lisa Galvin, Dr. Daniel King, and Dr. Jeffrey Keller, all successful music educators, and charter members of the Brass Band of Columbus. They will evaluate the performers on tone and intonation, technical merit and musicality and interpretation. Cash prizes of $500, $250 and $100 will be awarded to the top three contestants. The winner will also be invited to perform with the BBC at an upcoming concert.

At the conclusion of the competition, the Brass Band of Columbus will present a free concert at Trinity Lutheran Seminary at 7:00 pm where the competition winners will be announced.
