Dr. Paul Droste, Founder & Director Emeritus - Column 1

Founded in 1984 by Dr. Paul Droste (pictured above), the Brass Band of Columbus (BBC) has a Championship reputation. The BBC competed in the top NABBA division, the Championship Section, and has been awarded First Place ten times – most recently in April 2006.  No other North American brass band approaches this record of excellence. Learn more about our rich history.

April 2009 the BBC won the Hannaford Cup - awarded at the Hannaford Festival of Brass (Toronto) for their performance of The Padstow Lifeboat. This is the first time the Hannaford Cup journeyed south of the Canadian border!

The BBC continues to participate in NABBA, is quite dedicated to assisting with community service and our own Educational Outreach, our pursuit of expanding the Brass Band Repertoire with new commissions, and new recording projects. Our 30th season will bring some great innovation!

A New Season

The Big Give

Mark your calendar for May 12, 2015 @ 10:00 am and for the next 24 hours for an opportunity to support the BBC through The Columbus Foundation's Big Give.

The 2014-2015 season moves the BBC toward the end of our 31st year!

This season has featured many annual favorites to include the 2015 God and Country Concert (18-Apr-15).

Upcoming: We participate in the International Trumpet Guild conference in May andhost the Household Troops Band from the UK in June.

We just added a new July concert with the Hilliard Arts Council - one more time to hear the BBC (and it's free).

Our Educational Outreach continues with the 2015 Young Artist Competition - deadline to apply is June 2 with the competition adjudicated by Dr. Jeffrey Gershmanon June 9. The top three winners receive cash prizes, and the first place winner wins an opportunity to perform with the BBC at a later concert. »more info

Support Us

Our all-volunteer organization relies heavily upon Corporate and Individual support to sustain our mission as a 501(c)3 non-profit organization.   We have a growing educational outreach program featuring an annual Young Artist Competition and a Shared Concert Series.

We commissioned James Curnow to compose a new work in honor of our 25th Gala - the result of his genius is The Ellacombe Chronicles.

We need your help to continue such ambitious initiatives that further the genre as a whole.

Support us by concert attendance and the purchase of our CDs.

Support us with cash and in-kind donations.

If you have talents to share, consider supporting us through our Corporate Board of Directors.
