It is an incredible honor to have been selected as Director of the Brass Band of Columbus.  It’s a job I enthusiastically accept, and am eager to do my part to continue the level of excellence that has been the band’s tradition for its first 21 years.  I am grateful for the confidence the band has shown in me and for the kind support of so many well wishers from our audience during the interim period.   Dr. Droste’s shoes are far too large to be filled by one individual.  They’ll only be filled by a joint effort between the membership of the band and the director.  There is also a role for our loyal supporters.

Music and Musicians  

The band will continue the level of musical excellence our audiences have come to look forward to.  We will work hard to program a broad spectrum of music you will enjoy.  You’ll hear many of the familiar favorites you have come to expect, as well as new pieces that will help expand our musical range and the range of appreciation of our audiences.  Together, the band and our audiences will be musically rewarded, challenged and expanded. One thing you will never be is bored!  You will, of course, continue to hear from our talented soloists.  We will continue to bring in guest musicians that will add variety and interest to our programs.                

An Active Role for You  

We appreciate the support of so many of our longtime friends.  So many folks ask us “what can we do to help the band?”  Here are some thoughts:

• Provide financial support.  Your generous financial contributions are always appreciated and critical to our ability to continue to thrive.  Click on the “Support” menu at the top of this page or the “Support the Band” link at the bottom (we wanted to be sure you could find it!!) for more information.

• Provide in-kind support. You can be a great help by sharing the capability and/or resources of your profession or that of your company.  Promotion, printing, publicity, and many other areas of expertise would be welcomed.  If you think there is something you can do to help, contact us!

• Share what you have discovered.  Introduce someone to the BBC that has never heard us play.  Unfortunately, we are one of the best-kept musical secrets in Central Ohio.  Do everything you can to change that!

• Help us reach out to young people.  They are the next generation of brass band enthusiasts.  Young musicians, in particular, can see the level of excellence that is possible and also see that participation in a musical organization is something they can do for life.

The BBC has a rich and unequaled legacy to continue and build upon.  These are exciting times for the Brass Band of Columbus!
